Prime Coalition was honored to attend the White House’s Climate Capital Convening for an engaged discussion about driving capital to climate solutions, centered around the Biden administration’s Investing in America agenda, on May 30, 2024.

“We cannot overstate the urgency of the climate crisis and the rapid need to deploy capital toward high-impact climate solutions. We are grateful for the opportunity to have these important conversations,” said Keri Browder, Director of Project Frame and Prime Coalition’s Director of Impact Accountability. Browder attended the event on behalf of Trellis Climate, a new catalytic capital program from Prime dedicated to deploying first-of-a-kind (FOAK) climate projects and a member of Project Frame.

Attendees, which included climate-focused investors, business owners, and start-ups, reflected on some of the challenges related to financing the climate solutions needed to secure a livable planet, ranging from access to federal funding to opportunities to advance deployment.

“The variety of perspectives at the Convening emphasized how important it is to work collaboratively to reduce perceived or real barriers to scale climate solutions nationally,” said Browder.

Prime’s newest investment vehicle, Trellis Climate, exists to help first-of-a-kind (FOAK) climate projects overcome the ‘valley of death’ that often inhibits ventures from scaling to bring about the infrastructure we desperately need to secure a livable climate. This program provides innovative financing to ensure climate solutions with high potential for impact have the resources to overcome barriers to commercialization. In addition to providing catalytic investments, Trellis Climate plans to implement “sector transformation” programming to enhance systemic outcomes. This could include support for robust partnerships and inclusive decision-making with surrounding communities. By addressing the commercialization capital gaps and driving innovation, Trellis Climate aims to expedite the scaling of climate technologies so that they fulfill their promise to the planet on a timeline that matters.

In response to the hurdles mentioned during the Convening, the White House released a Climate Capital Guidebook: a “one-stop-shop map of capital programs (grants, loans, and equity investments) across the federal government available to climate-related start-ups, small- and medium-sized businesses, and their investors,” and expanded access to its 504 Loan Program.

Honoring its values of integrity and inclusivity, Frame hosts bi-monthly public Community Meetings to foster conversations, much like that at the Climate Capital Convening, diving into topics such as the latest climate science and reporting regulations.
