Project Frame
In response to the urgent threat that climate change poses to people and the planet, climate tech venture capital investments have increased remarkably in recent years, from less than $2 billion in 2010 to $17 billion in 2020, and $40B+ in new climate investment commitments in 2021 alone.
While these leaps are inspiring, there is still much to do. As we reach greenhouse gas emissions levels that will cause catastrophic harm, high-impact solutions are a critical element of our global climate strategy. Climate investors need to be able to assess the developing technologies they invest in today in terms of the impact on emissions when they reach commercial scale in the future.
Recognizing the urgency of supporting transformative solutions and the lack of historical guidance around assessment standards to lean on, a group of climate investors began gathering in late 2020 to explore consensus standards. In 2021, the group formalized into a nonprofit program housed within Prime, called Project Frame. Together, members of the group are building frameworks and a platform for collaboration to help climate investors better assess the impact that investments they make today will have on greenhouse gas emissions in the future.
